Report: Major Interstate Closed for Hours Following Catastrophic Crash
One semi-truck driver attempted to pass another on Interstate 40 near Brinkley in Monroe County, Arkansas, and the driver’s actions proved deadly. According to a KARK News report, the crash occurred when the driver of the tractor trailer, who was attempting to pass another semi-truck, rear-ended the other truck, and then spun away due to the impact before colliding with an SUV.
Flames from one of the vehicles were said to have been visible from 30 miles away, although it is unclear which of the vehicles caught fire during the incident. There was also one fatality reported as a result of the crash, however, the victim’s identity has not yet been released. It is also not yet known whether the victim was driving or traveling in one of the trucks or the SUV. The highway was shut down in both directions following the accident and traffic was diverted to nearby U.S. Highway 70 while authorities responded to and assessed the scene.
